  • Aunt Paula’s Famous Flank Steak
A red-plate-worthy favorite for years!

Ingredients

  • Flank steak (about 1.5 pounds)
  • 2 Tbls vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbls onion
  • 2 Tbls lemon juice
  • 2 Tbls brown sugar
  • 1-2 cloves garlic
  • 1/3 (ish) cup soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ginger (powdered) or more like 1 Tbls fresh grated ginger
  • salt & pepper

Equipment

  • Small mixing bowl
  • Shallow baking dish or bowl with lid
  • Broiling pan or grill
  • Small sauce pan (optional)

Instruction

  1. Mix together everything but the meat in small bowl.
  2. Place meat in shallow dish and pour mixture over meat to coat as much as possible. Cover with lid and place in refrigerator.
  3. Allow to marinate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  4. Set oven to broil and preheat 5 minutes.
  5. Remove meat from marinade and place on broiling pan. Broil for about 6 minutes on one side. Flip and broil for another 5 minutes or until meat thermometer says you're safe.
  6. Cover meat with a foil tent and allow meat to "rest" for 5 minutes before slicing.
  7. Slice thinly against the grain.
  8. If desired, boil the remaining marinade for one minute and serve as sauce.
