The Recipe
Ingredients
- 38 oz. raw brats (two 19 oz packages)
- 1 large white onion sliced (half-ring shape; not too small)
- 10 cloves peeled garlic
- 1/4 cup butter (cut into chunks)
- 12 oz. tasty beer (like Spotted Cow)
- Buns (and butter)
other Equipment
- Slow Cooker (at least 4 quart size)
- Oven or toaster oven for buns
Step 3
- Spray the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Arrange HALF the onion slices in a layer and arrange the brats on top in 2 layers.
- Add the rest of the onion, garlic, pepper, and butter pieces. Pour beer over everything into the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours - without lifting the lid during cooking time.
- Enjoy the smell. Consider taking pity on your neighbors and invite them to join you.
- Serve brats on BUTTERED & TOASTED buns. You are not a barbarian.

This slow cooker recipe is solid. Great for winter months in Twin Cities! But if you have access to a grill, check out Dad's grilled beer brats!
